Kansas coach Bill Self announced Monday night that senior forward Mario Little has been cleared for action following a six-game suspension stemming from a Dec. 16 arrest. Little was charged with a number of misdemeanors in Kansas, including battery, criminal trespass and criminal damage to property. According to Self, Little has accepted a diversion agreement with the Lawrence Municipal Court and will attend weekly counseling sessions stemming from the two battery counts.

The timing of the decision to allow Little back on the team corresponded with the diversion agreement according to Self and it was only after that agreement that he was allowed back on the team.

Self said, "We as a program take the events of December 16th very seriously. Mario made mistakes and exercised poor judgment. We have let the legal process play out and have been able to evaluate Mario in the last four weeks in a variety of ways, including counseling. We feel he should be allowed to rejoin out team for games."

Little thanked his teammates and the program for their support during the suspension and apologized for his actions.  On the court, Little had been a reserve forward, averaging just over six points a game prior to the suspension. His first game back will be against Iowa State this week.

Little has a few more games and then he will only be heard of again on a police report.  He has no basketball career ahead.  Maybe he has gotten some education at KU, hope so.

Understand, haters, this is not "just like" any other situation. Do your research, I'm talking to you CBS, explain what happened instead of just reading off charges. However, I guess if you were a responsible site, Gregg Doyel wouldn't write for you. Since CBS is too lazy to add context, allow me.

on Dec. 16, around 2:45am the Lawrence police were called to 12 and Ohio street. Apparently, Mario Little had gotten a call from one of his friends about Little's "lady friend" alone in her apartment with a 19 year old baseball player. Mario went into the apartment, and walked in on "something."  Mario then flew into a rage, beat the crap out of the 19 year old male. While the beatdown was is session, "lady friend" ran into a neighboring apartment that was having a party. Mario followed her into the apartment where there was a bunch more baseball players. Mario hit at least one more male, and pushed a girl out of his way while he was trying to get to his "lady friend." It took about 5 guys to wrestle Mario into submission and then the police took him in to  custody.

Mario was charged with 4 counts of assault, 2 counts of criminal damage to property, and 1 count of criminal trespassing.

I'm not saying that what Mario did was the right way to handle the situation... but can you honestly say what you would do in that situation? I would like to say that I would handle it better, but I honestly don't know for sure how I would react.

Oh, by the way, I know "lady friend's" real name, but I have more class than to use it.

I don't know what kind of Wildcat you are - there are WAY too many teams who call themselves the Wildcats - but if you're from K-State, you seem to forget that "Huggy Bear" was your coach. Or if you're from Kentucky, you've got your own set of problems to deal with, namely, a long history of corruption from the late 1940s onward. You and Honest John are but one NCAA violation away from another Death Penalty.

Oh, and last time I checked, Kansas football hasn't exactly been the picture of success.

Was your head under the sand for most of the Mark Mangino era?

Mike, you really should clarify who you are speaking to my friend.  A second chance is almost always deserved in this world, but, like with "that" portion of my family, you can't give multiple second chances.  I don't know this kid.  I honestly don't care about him.  What I do care about is that it seems like he is getting off the hook rather easily.  I don't care that he plays ball at KU.  If you committed crimes he should be punished.  I know at least three people that went to college and were removed from their respective schools after a few minor run ins with the law.  I have never been a fan of special treatment to athletes from any school or at any level and have been very outspoken about that topic in my community where I teach and coach.  Helping young people succeed is a very good and noble thing; however, you have to be careful to not fall into the trap of giving free passes to kids because they play sports or give you kick ass teacher appreciation and/or Christmas one I've had is a box full of Duke basketball memorabilia from one of my students' father...seriously cool stuff.  But that still doesn't mean that he gets more chances to screw up than my other kids.

fratsey, that's cute, you're trying to be clever.  Duke's athletic program as a whole is average at best, especially football.  However, how many small, private schools are really doing big things in college football right now?  With such a limited number of spots for student-athletes, it's very difficult to fill a football roster with D-1 talent at a school that is the size of Duke and has the academic requirements they have.  As for about we come into this decade and let accusations that were rescinded by the accuser die?  I'm not a fan of paying some girl to come and strip at a house party...that is far beyond sketchy and believe me, if I had a son that age and he was involved, he'd have caught a serious ass whooping.  However, the rape accusations were very weak to being with and the DA lost his job for making such a public spectacle out of the event with virtually zero corroborating evidence.  As for basketball...Duke has had at most 3 losing seasons in the past 30 years and the last one was the 94-95 season, I don't expect another one any time soon.  If you check my recent posts concerning Duke basketball, you'll see that I am actually quite critical of my favorite sports team.  Remember that I actually said in my last two posts on this blog that Coach Self is a class act and seems to have run a very good, respectable program...which is why THIS ONE year seems strange to have a freshman that probably should have been ineligible for improper benefits and a soon to be career criminal on is team.  Oh, and last time I checked, Kansas football hasn't exactly been the picture of success.

Wow. I have to disagree with you "holier than thous". Maybe by not chucking him off the bus but actually letting him back on he is actually trying to help him? Obviously this is a serious matter, and Self sticking his neck out and supporting this kid while you d*ckwads sit back, salivating with your axes, waiting to strike, maybe just shows how much he does care about his kids? But I guess forgiveness and second chances doesn't extend past your own family, huh wildcat? Because you know they exist, don't you? Your brother? Or nephew? Or cousin? Or Uncle? Have I struck a nerve yet? Or do I need to keep going? He's there isn't he? Ah, you forgot about him didn't you? That's what I thought. Don't lie, there is at least one in every family. Did you throw him off like you want everyone else to do with their skeletons? Hypocrite

Kansas's current roster reminds me of the old Cincy teams of the early 90's. You know, the ones that were littered with future parolees.
Self has become the new "Huggy Bear"...recruiting pure 100% thugs! How many Kansas players have been suspended so far this year??? And we're only half way through the!
Kansas fans should be ashamed!!! But I guess all ya'll care about is winning, no matter how bad it makes your once respected program look!

Please excuse me for suggesting that Coach K wasn't perfect.

It isn't Coach K's "integrity", Duke's player's "integrity" o
r even Duke's success in basketball over Coach K's years as head coach that creates the hatred of Duke.  It is the arrogance of people like you.  Not to get biblical on you or anything, but the "log" in your eye might just be hiding the truth from you.

And before you hang your next coach in effigy and burn his image in his family's front lawn (like you "goody two shoes" did to Coach K), perhaps you should thank your lucky stars for people like Coach K and Coach Self.  I have a feeling that Duke basketball FANS might be well served to consider a dose of humility, it will make your next losing season under Coach K, or his eventual replacement easier to swallow.

By the way RJR"football"51, how's the football program?  Lacrosse?  Be careful, the stench might spread.
