It's finally over for Louisville coach Rick Pitino. Yes, there are certain things in his life that have changed forever. The jokes will likely never end. Every time the Louisville coach calls a thirty-second timeout, someone will make the crack that it is time for "two Pitinos." Opposing student sections will continue to chant the name "Karen Sypher" towards him at every opportunity. And the once fruitful motivational speaking career has been all but completely destroyed by the legacy of his infamous night at an Italian restaurant.

But for the parts of Pitino's life that matter most, the sentencing of Karen Sypher on Friday to 87 months in federal prison will close the door on its most embarrassing event. After a circus of a trial this summer, numerous attempts by Sypher to destroy Pitino's name in public and numerous pleas to the court for a new trial, a federal judge in Louisville ended the Pitino-Sypher saga for at least the next seven years.

The remains left behind aren't pretty for the Louisville coach. He had to sit in a public courtroom and recount the graphic details of his sexual encounter with Sypher and her subsequent abortion. The testimony included some of the most embarrassing admissions a man could ever have to make and ensured that from a comedic perspective, the terms "Pitino", "15 seconds" and "Porcini's" will forever be linked.

Due to the events, he was forced to ask his son Richard to leave the sidelines as an assistant under him at Louisville and instead take a job at Florida in order to avoid the limelight of the situation. Pitino said at the Sypher trial that the decision was one of the hardest of his life and he broke down while talking about telling his son to leave the UL program. He has had to deal with a diminished public perception that has made the state he once owned, a much more difficult place in which to reside.

But even if the events have been difficult to get through, make no mistake, he has overcome them. His Louisville team is overachieving this season, playing a form of basketball that harkens back to the exciting early Pitino years. The Cardinals will make the NCAA Tournament, likely as a 4 or 5 seed, an achievement that far exceeds where they should be from simply a talent perspective. Recruiting, which was once thought to be the true negative legacy of the trial, is at an all-time high for Pitino since he has been in Louisville. The Cardinals will add two McDonald's All Americans to next year's team and are situated to potentially contend for one of the best three classes in America in 2012.

I will be honest, those achievements have truly surprised me. I sat and watched all ten days of the original Karen Sypher trial and thought there was virtually no way Pitino could survive it. He was publicly humiliated to such a degree that I found it difficult to believe he could remain as the Louisville coach. The Pitino that sat in that courtroom looked like a shell of the Pitino we knew on the sidelines and I assumed that at the first opportunity, he would leave the city and start again.

But Pitino has persevered and some would even say, excelled. Boosted in part by naysayers like me and energized by competition coming from his rival John Calipari in Lexington, Pitino has put together his best coaching job thus far at Louisville. Now, with his extorter headed to prison and unable to spend any more time in public seeking to embarrass his name, Pitino can fully concentrate on his basketball program and turn the page on one of the darker chapters of his life. I still contend that there are less than five coaches in America who could have survived the ordeal and possess the rare combination of intense willpower and unquestioned University support necessary to remain in their position after such events. But Pitino had both, and he has not only survived, he has actually thrived.

Rick Pitino will never be able to forget the Sypher mess and it will put a stain on his legacy forever. But now with the blonde vixen headed to a federal penitentiary near you, he will no longer have to face it on a daily basis. The final chapter of Rick Pitino's coaching career is beginning and he now can face it from a pure basketball perspective. That must be music to the future Hall of Famer's ears.

louisville goes out in round 1 of the ncaas--book it!  Then pitino can work on his sex game and see if he can go longer than 15 seconds with his next skank at the club.  with some work, rick can "get it done!"

UK fans are so freakin classless its disgusting.

Look who's talking. I've read enough of your classless posts to know a troll when I see one.

Why are UKF fans here anyway.

Free Country. 1st Amendment? Ever heard of it? This isn't the C~J and you're not Rick so go jump off the fifth street bridge.

Do you get your rocks off on other people going through difficult times?  Maybe you thought Jones was going to trash Pitino and got a little excited.

Not at all but I'm not stupid enough to believe that those two weren't in Porcini's at the same time engaged in whatever it was they where doing. So neither of them are saints.

What he did was deplorable,  No doubt.  Stupid and irresponsible. If you are unhappy in your marriage or with your partner there are ways to solve that BUT.....and read this closely oh ye of the highest morality I am sure...what he did was NOT a crime.  Therefore, it is nothing but hyperbole  for you to say that he is as guilty as she is.  She comitted a crime.  He commited a reprehensible but not illegal act.

If his actions where so deplorable then why defend him jestep? Seems you can't make up your mind. Since you're saying in one sentence it's deplorable and reprehensible then turn around in the next sentence and say its hyperbole to say that he was as gulity as she was....Nice word btw(hyperbole, did you learn that from a Kentucky fan? just curious) But as I recall he was there and wasn't forced into his 15 seconds of shame with a gun to his head so I'd say it was collusion on both their parts....*hint* Collusion means they were in on it together.

Sounds like a jaded UK fan to me

Jaded UK fan? Thats laughable you're the one with his panties in a bunch over a sex addict and his girlfriend. Where's your Got rick? T-shirt now. And for the record just so you know I couldn't be happier with Kentuckys current coach.

You know what chapps UK fans butts? The fact that this WASNT the end for Pitino.  The fact that UK spent one whole year as the better program and that happened while UK had its best recruiting class ever and UL struggled.  Now its over and it didnt have the impact you thought it would.  PItino will likely finish his career at UL and have shots at the NC along the way.

Wrong again. I can't speak for all Kentucky fans but the ones that I know are laughing their arse off at him now and want him to stick around since he can't beat Calipari on the basketball court or in recruiting. Why would we want to give that advantage up. Speaking of National titles how long has Rick been there now? Ten years right? How's that working out for you guys? Getting rid of a HOF coach for Kentucky's seconds.

Meanwhile, he found a one way ticket out of Lexington.

Yep he sure did and found one into cameltoe with his eyes on his 401k.

Make all the jokes you want.  The better team resides in Louisville this year.

What you mean like the UCONN game last night where you guys traded in your Col Sanders Chikin bucket hats for Burger King crowns? LMAO......Grow up son. And if UL was the better team they'd proved it on the basketball court. I think the final score proved who was the better team.

Sorry.

Only Louisville would continue to employ a person after this embarresment as a person a university representative and college basketball coach. How desperate for winning can you be ?

Ohh this one is just served up on a tee for me.

You want to talk to UL fans about being desperate to win?  Really?

Why do you think Cal is in Lexington.  Why do you think despite being the only coach to have two Final Fours taken away, UK made Cal the higest paid coach in the country?  I will tell you why, because they were getitng their tale kicked by UL in every way possible.

Lets go over that again.  You threw money at a coach who has two Final Four banners that are less vaulable than the TP in my bathroom, not because you were already on top and he was the hottest name out there.  No,  It was because you were  desperate.  Desperate for buzz, desperate to have people talk about you again.  Desperate to be able to stick out your chest again.  Desperate to be able to have your life have meaning again.

You want to talk to me about hipocrasy?  Get that weak sauce out of here.

I mean hell, at least what Pitino did wasnt job related.  You wouldnt even have the luxury of knowing about it if it hadnt been for the only actual criminal in the case.  On the other hand, Cal has had his biggest accomplishments stripped from him but we are supposed to believe he is clean and knew nothing.  Its real convienent to be naive when it suits you isnt it?

Its funny how UK fans find such a morale high ground when it comes to this case.  None of you have ever done a thing wrong.  However, if you had, I wouldnt know because you have the luxury of keeping it private.

The ironic thing is that through it all, and without the buzz and the hype and without the monster recruiting classes (which are seemingly more important than the actual games to Cat fans now), the sad truth for UK fans is that UL is the better team right now and UK fans are left to hold on real tight to a win from back in December that UL is helping to make look good.  Even better is that even had UL won, by now that would be something like our 4th best win of the year because if UK had another loss they may not even be in the top 25.

LOL, when was the last time "Big Brother" beat a top 15 team, or any team ranked in the top 25 for that matter.  Oh thats right it was an injury riddled UL team WAY back in December. When Josh Harrelson, by mere coincidence I am sure, had the game of his life after UL lost its only remaining power forward, and one of its hottest players at the time to injury the night before the game.

Get a clue.  UL has beaten more top 15 teams in a calendar week than UK has all year.

Yeah for you, you won the UL game.  Good thing because if not UK might be on the bubble right now.

How does it feel to have UL carrying you right now.  LOL...freaking hillarious.

Learning what not to do is sometimes more important than learning what to do. Page 156 of Success Is A Choice by Slick dick  Rick Pitino .  What a scum bag liar hypocrite. Only Louisville would continue to employ a person after this embarresment as a person a university representative and college basketball coach. How desperate for winning can you be ? Lets see, married intoxicated coach has sex with a woman of questionable mental capacity in a restaurant after hours in 15 seconds! Any other coach FIRED, LEAVE Slick Rick and Louisville please stay who cares please win thats all! Love Tom Jurich! Pathectic , a small scenario of whats wrong with this country!
