West Virginia and Illinois are both heading to Italy later this month.
The two teams will actually play against one another overseas.
That, to my knowledge, has never happened before.
The Mountaineers and Illini have been granted permission by the NCAA to play a scrimmage on Aug. 17 in front of the troops at the Aviano Air Force Base, located just outside of Venice, a source told CBSSports.com.
Only the coaches and players will be permitted on the base. The troops will be the only spectators allowed to watch.
Illinois is taking a trip to Italy from Aug. 10-20 with stops in Rome, Florence, Venice and Como.
West Virginia’s trip goes from Aug. 8-22 and will include stops in Sicily, Rome and Venice.

West Virginia, Illinois to scrimmage in Italy@chisox5544. Even though I am an illini fan that was pretty funny, it was a very "traumatic" season....

West Virginia, Illinois to scrimmage in ItalyReally? Tuition is going up double digits, we have an overpaid football coach and maybe a top 20 basketball team....but they have enough money to send 20 people to italy for 10 days? I am all for troop morale. Cheer them up by sending them home.....Where is this money coming from?

West Virginia, Illinois to scrimmage in ItalyThis is great. However, if Huggins yells, "SHOOT THE BALL" I hope an Army regular doesn't take that in the literal sense.

West Virginia, Illinois to scrimmage in Italybeing from WV, and also being in the military, I think this is a great gift to the troops overseas and I believe it should be done more often. Hope both schools have a good time and put on a great show for the people overseas.
