It's time to take that D-League job, BP

Bruce Pearl has a three-year show-cause penalty.

The NCAA's Wednesday afternoon announcement made it official.

So now it's time to take that D-League job with the Dallas Mavericks, right?

Yes, I know Pearl considers himself a "college" coach, and so do I. But coaching a relevant college program is no longer a realistic option for the next three years even if it is technically possible, which is why Pearl would be wise to transition into professional basketball, a place where nobody cares how many phone calls you make or cookouts you host. While this NCAA cloud hangs, that should be Pearl's move. And he'll be great, I think, because the guy has, over a span of 19 seasons as a college coach, consistently shown the ability to win with good rosters, average rosters and below-average rosters.

Pearl almost never loses.

Check his year-by-year results.

So there's no reason to think Pearl wouldn't be a succesful D-League coach -- and, I genuinely believe, he'll have a better chance of being an NBA head coach before he gets a realistic opportunity to be a high-major college coach again. So why not jump on that path, take a shot and see what happens? A college job will probably be available later. But it's not now. And a decent one almost certainly won't be for a while.

I agree that Bruce Pearl needs to take the D-League job. It would keep him "in the game" while the smoke clears from the debacle he created as the Vols head coach . Make no bones about it, Bruce Pearl violated the biggest rule in coaching: He lied to the NCAA. There is  no defending that. However, he is really all that different than more than half (if not ALL) college coaches in major college sports these days? They ALL bend the rules. If you checked close enough, they ALL have committed violations of some sort. What it boils down to is, how motivated is the NCAA to investigate their respective programs?

Bruce Pearl is being made an example of because of his past exploits (he was a whisle blower at a previous coaching post).  Again, I am not condoning what he did. This is more a comment on how RIDICULOUS the NCAA system truly is. They turn a blind eye on the major money generating programs and let the coaches do what they want. They only REALLY act when the court of public opinion jumps in. Every now and again they find one program to turn into a scapegoat to help re-establish NCAA credibility, then its back to business as usual.

Bruce Pearl was the wrong guy at the wrong time. He won't be the last and chances are he won't be the worst. I just think its time to let it go. This 3 year "show cause" thing is overkill.........

He's done as a college coach. He's burned too many bridges. The NBA awaits for him to prove again what a loser he is.

Pearl almost never loses
Too funny. All he ever does is lose. He loses as a college coach being banned for 3 years for unethical conduct. He loses as a husband for cheating on his wife and flaunting it. He loses as a human being for how he screwed over his school, players and his assistant coaches. So you see all he does is lose.

Oh and Dante called to remind him the 9th circle awaits.
