LaQuinton Ross deleted the Tweet and apologized pretty quickly.
But by then, as is almost always the case in this fast-paced world, the damage was done.
"Don't know how much longer I can take this BULL----!!!!!" Ross Tweeted, and I think it's reasonable to assume "this BULL----" was in reference to the fact that Ohio State coach Thad Matta didn't play Ross Tuesday night for the fifth straight game. Elite recruits don't like sitting the bench, you know? But Ross' comments are also interesting in a larger scope, because they come just a few days after Maryland guard Terrell Stoglin Tweeted his displeasure with Mark Turgeon's decision to bench him in crucial minutes.
I don't care whether Matta and Turgeon are right or wrong.
That's not the point.
The point is that athletes must learn, sooner or later, that Tweeting something in the year 2012 is no different than saying something into a microphone held by Clark Kellogg. It's all for public consumption. I hear your thoughts when you say them live on CBS. I read your thoughts when you Tweet them to your followers -- if only because your followers RT them and those thoughts find me somehow, in this case via an email from our Ohio State Rapid Reporter.
Bottom line, don't be stupid.
If you're an athlete at a high-profile school -- you know, like Ohio State, which just so happens to be ranked sixth nationally -- you need to ask yourself one question before Tweeting anything: Would I say these words into a microphone with a television camera in my face? If the answer is a negative, don't hit "send." Because if you do, you'll look silly. And then you're just gonna end up deleting the Tweet and subsequently apologizing, at which point you'll look even sillier than you did before.

OSU's Ross latest to go off on Twitter, apologizeWeakest poster on CBS right below. DON has zero understanding of sports so he make jokes using cliches and old news. He only gets to use the computers at the library for an hour and this is how he get's off.
Living in Detroit really sucks folks. You have to be one dumb animal to stay there when there are so many other places to live. Oh, well. The world needs ditch diggers too. |

OSU's Ross latest to go off on Twitter, apologizeLaQuinton? Isn't that a hotel chain and a city in California? Perhaps Mr. Ross should consider taking his massive talents elsewhere, where he can properly signify, represent, and be treated like the grown man he is.

OSU's Ross latest to go off on Twitter, apologizeOSU is a cesspool. It only takes one player to tell the truth to the NCAA Enforcement Committee and it will be all over for their basketball or football programs.Wow Teres....it's so awesome that you have this insider information! I just don't know how you are able to keep all this evidence to yourself....guess it's more fun to make constantly make sweeping, far reaching accusations with nothing to support them than to provide the actual evidence! Pretty impressive level of restraint you have... ![]() |

OSU's Ross latest to go off on Twitter, apologizeI love how people act like they know everything about a school or a program and they get on message boards and fill us all in. Newsflash: College athletics is messed up across the country. Ohio State got caught for breaking the rules, plain and simple. Tressell was/is an idiot, and I don't/can't forgive the guy. I am not happy about things that went down and I don't defend or condone any of it. It all still pisses me off. I am in the minority of Buckeye fans, but I think their penalties should have been bigger and more severe. I am also not one to throw out the "everybody's doing it" excuse, cause its just that, an excuse. Everybody is not doing it. Many are (SEC I'm looking in your direction), but I would like to think that some are not. Unfortunately we are in a day where I don't think most of us would be completely comfortable if the NCAA were to pull back the curtain on their school.
And BTW: I'm not sure what a kid tweeting about not getting playing time has anything to do with Ohio State and scandal or controversy or breaking NCAA rules. The kid was a top recruit who had academic issues and couldn't play or practice with the team the first semester. Since he has become eligible he is extremely behind everyone else on the team in terms of understanding plays and playing defense. So Matta isn't comfortable playing him. When the kid does play, he looks completely lost on the court. Thats it. And that has nothing to do with Ohio State being a "dirty program". |

OSU's Ross latest to go off on Twitter, apologizeWow. The OSU basketball program is dirty now? Do you have any facts with which to back that (baseless) accusation? Get out of here and quit your meaningless hating on the OSU basketball team. If you want to call out the football team, fine- There are real reasons to do so. But to bash a clean basketball program that graduates many of its elite players, or at least retains many of its elite players for multiple years (years of education at a top-50 ranked school, nonetheless), is simply idiotic and without merit. Troll on, though, troll master.

OSU's Ross latest to go off on Twitter, apologizeRight on Teres Minor. OSU should not get the respect it seems to get in sports. If the truth were known, it's a dirty program but nobody will officially come forward even though many know the truth.
