Jordan Burgason has knocked down 71 3-pointers this season for Lipscomb, leading the nation at 52.6 percent from behind the arc.
Burgason won’t be taking any more jumpers this season, as he was dismissed from the university on Friday.
“I love Jordan and wish him nothing but the absolute best,” Athletics Director Philip Hutcheson said. “But we broke university rules that he knew he was breaking. We had clearly advised him, and he was aware of the consequences of making a bad decision.”
Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com ranked the 6-foot-3 senior as the No. 24 best shooter in the nation in the preseason. Burgason holds the school record for 3-pointers with 282.
“My actions have not shown a respect for the university and its policies and for that I am sorry,” Burgason said in a statement.
He averaged 16.4 points per game for the 11-13 Bisons.
