The Cryptic Rock Song Name Game

July 14, 2012 6:52 pm

A little earlier today in an attempt at humor I mistyped an intentional mistype and posted a very offensive word.  I was called on it in a proper manner by Rhino and I sent him a PM with my apology and the promise to reflect on what happened.  I have decided to post this to all because I have enjoyed my activities here and the interaction with you all.  This is an oasis from all the hateful discourse one encounters across the internet.  I am sorry if my actions have offended any of you.  We apparently share a passion for things musical.  I am hopeful to be welcome to return after a time out in the penalty box for cross.
Thanks for the apology, cross.
But it really wasn't necessary.
You definitely nailed it when you called these music threads an "oasis" from the rest of the garbage that is usually experienced on internet message boards.

We've got a really excellent thing going with what I consider to be a wonderful group of people here.
Hopefully we can continue on for years and years because I feel that music is something that we all cherish and it touches all of us in different ways.
I love being reminded of some great songs that I hadn't thought of in years and I also love being introduced to some stuff that is either new or something that I somehow overlooked back in the day.

So, after further review, your time in the penalty box is definitely over and I say: PLAY ON!

CELEBRATION OF THE LIZARD - THE OPUS THE LIZARD KING ALWAYS WANTED TO RECORD.   NOT TO TOUCH THE EARTH was the only "movement' of the song to be recorded in the studio on WAITING FOR THE SUN, but the complete song can be heard on the posthumously released LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD/ABSOLUTELY LIVE. Val Kilmer does a nice job of singing NOT TO TOUCH THE EARTH in a clip from THE DOORS.

Speaking of OLIVER STONE movies, my wife and I went to see SAVAGES last night. My wife will be 47 this coming Saturday, 9 years younger than me, and had a pretty sheltered childhood and high school life so she missed the 70s and that drug culture that I grew up immersed in. I thought the movie was outstanding and could have been set in the 70s with cocaine as the drug at the center of the plot(think of Johnny Depp in BLOW). Like Stone's best movie's, this one is more character driven and less preachy than most of his "conspiracy movies," though JFK remains a favorite of mine. My wife thought the movie was interesting and fairly entertaing, but the was a lot of disguised dialogue and drug references that added to the complexity of the action of the characters and drives the plot that I think she probably missed. Any of you of a similar age and background as me, 56 and mildly experimental without losing myself to the ravages of actual addiction but surrounded by friends who did would like this movie. Not quite as graphically violent as NATURAL BORN KILLERS, it still contains plenty of graphic images and brutal scenes.

CROSS, I would second RHINO in that your mispeling was not overly offensive. I found it mildly humorous and have no problem with your attempts to inject some humor onto these threads. I like playing the games, but I use these threads more as a forum to express my opinions on many subjects besides music and on occasion, being offensive is my main goal. You haven't been around these threads long enough to see my propensity for making posts that approach novella lengths, but I believe in freedom of speech and have no problem with colorful language. And while I can't speak for RHINO, who I have been very friendly with for a few years through these music threads, I suspect his question to you was more an actual inquiry as to whether your mistype was unintentional or not than an actual rebuke of your use of the word. We're glad to have you around so don't leave out of an unnecessary sense of embarrassment over (insert the name of my next song here to complete the thought.)

BACK TO THE GAME!!

NEXT SONG: BAND HINT- A pale shade of red + Mayweather's first name
SONG HINT: this is actually the name of a 1987 album, not an individual song.
a brief period + an accidental or temporary decline or deviation from an expected or accepted condition or state + why you did something(sometimes mistaken as meaning the same thing as "an excuse")

Pink Floyd

A Mometary Lapse of Reason. By the way, it was around this time in 2008 when I got turned on to the threads. I was casually scrolling down the threads list when I came across "The New 70s lyrics game." I clicked on and immediately said, wow, I can do this." And we've sure branched out from there.

Fans,
You can speak for me any time you want.....unless that package with your meds finally arrives in Louisville.
But in all seriousness Fans is correct. I was just asking a question - not offended at all. I just thought it was a funny mis-type.
