Goal Scoring

December 23, 2009 2:24 pm

Rask is half a goal better in gaa and .020 better in save percentage. Firstly that is huge gap when you are talking for a team that cant score. That is biggest reason Rask is 9-3-2 and TT is 8-8-5.  TT is not a bad but Rask is better. A half a goal difference in goals against is huge especially for that team that cannot score. That is why TT is .500  and Rask is 6 games over .500.

Kessel as of the other day is on a pace to score 44 goals this year. And if I am not mistaken had double digit goals before any member of the Bruins and he has played a month less than all of the the Bruins goal scorers.

I agree Kessel is gone but how nice would it be to have that output now.

I also dont want to drag the hole .500 debate back up.  It is what it is and by Rask playing better than TT he gives us our best chance to win.

Goal Scoring

I agree Rask is playing well, but come on, Tim Thomas got a shutout and you still complain about him.  Again, Kessel is gone and it would be nice to have any of our goal scorers just get their heads in the right direction.
I hope they can get another W against the Thrashers tonight with  3 or 4 goals ... (won't ask for much).  You gotta admit though, the offense is pretty stale with whomever is put between the pipes, and most games being 2 goals to work with makes it hard on anyone put in nets.   Even one of TTs shutouts was a loss, and that has to be frustrating.

Goal Scoring

I understand and agree that the offense is enemic but you also have to agree that you have to then put your best people in the game that give you the best chance to win. If you are scoring two goals a game then you have to go with an option in net that gives up less not in one game but on average.  TT has not played well lately and did not look good on Thursday. Monday not to much of a choice who to put in net and had I known the stats I would not have complained so much early in the day about TT being in there. He has a track record with the Sens and that is fine. You say it doesnt matter who is in net but I disagree for the reasons mentioned earlier.  Don't you agree if you are scoring only two goals a game doesn't it make since to go with the goalie who is giving up less than two goals a game for your best chance to win.

Like I said earlier in the season. It would not matter how well Rask played TT would still be the number one guy.  So far it has proven out to be true. If you are talking 3.00 to 3.50 that is not that much difference but when you are talking under two goals a game when you are only scoring two goals a game that is a no brainer who to start.  Rask was hot and on a streak. They put TT in and he gets beat hard and then his back out the next night and gets beat again. They put Rask in and he lets in two goals after TT gave up 8 in his last two starts and they go right back to TT. It just does not make sense to me.

My biggest problem with TT is I have said all along that he is not the greatest thing since sliced bread and a lot of fans around here annoited him the goalie of all time. He is a good goalie and that is all he will be. He is almost 36 years old and it does not get better from here.  Rask is 23 on the cusp of being a superstar and you can tell this from all indications. Unless his mechanics and his sound skills all of a sudden go away he is going to be a top netminder in this league for a long time to come. Plus for now he has the right attitude. He has to play to get better and he has to play to give you the best shot at the playoffs.  Believe me he gives the Bruins there best shot to win in the playoffs with the goalies that are on this team.

You have to see it makes since you score two goals a game and you have a goalie giving up less than two goals a game it is a no brainer in my book who is the starter until that proves out not to be true.

Of course all my rantings dont mean a thing cause Julien will stick with his binkie all the way.  Thats what it must be too. Either that or he is being told that TT is making 5 million so play him. Other than those two scenerios with the stats the way they are it does not make since why TT is starting over TT.

There was no personal feelings in this and I dont hate TT we just have a better choice for our number one goalie.  And his name is

Goal Scoring

The problem with the B's has NOTHING to do with goaltending. Rask may become better than Vezina tropthy winner TT and I think the B's did overpay for TT but the problem is offense. Salary is very important today with the cap. TT's 5 mil cap # ranks him 13th of the 30starting goalies. Did the B's overpay for Ryder @ 4 mil, Lucic @ 4 mil, Strum @ 3.5 mil ??? I like Rask but his last 3 starts have been against Toronto thats what I meant by bringing him along slowly. CJ hasn't given Rask the start verse Detroit, Pitt or Montreal on there anniversery night where 4th line Canadiens who just shook Guy Lefluers hand were playing lights out. By the way,   why did the B's agree to that game?   After CJ keeps changing lines. I mean when Byron Bitz is on your top line, there's a problem. I hpe my pasion for the B's doesn't come off as arrogant. I'm frustrated because I thought Cherilli and CJ were the future Polian/ Belichik but now I am losing faith.  Go B's.

Goal Scoring

December 23, 2009 7:14 pm

I forgot Rask has played only minor league games so far this year has not played an NHL team yet. Where was my head.  Im pretty sure on saturday night that "Toronto" handed it to the B's pretty well. Not by score but by the game played. Yeah the B's lost by two goals but it was handed to them pretty well. The first two games the Bruins were up for because they led by Marc Savard had a mission to punish Phil Kessel because the Bruins did not want him here.  The Bruins wanted that game.  Thats what can happen when the Bruins play with passion. As the luster of that wore off the Leafs had played better in the second and third game. Far as I can tell the Devils are the best team in the NHL right now and Rask  took them to a shoot out. If Rask is putting up the numbers he is he deserves more playing time. Thats the bottom line to me.  He is more sound in net than TT and is only going to get better.

You tell me at what the Bruins are paying TT and Ryder and Lucic and Sturm and Krejci you think Kessel is overpriced at 5.4 million.
Not a chance. He has played one month less than all the Bruins "snipers" and he has 3 more goals than any of them. That is saying something considering most on this thread said he would do nothing with that team in Toronto.  12-13 with Kessel may not be much to say anything about but if you consider that they were 1-11 without Kessel and that without any training camp for Kessel. One other tidbit the Leafs are 7-5 in December.  I would hate having that Kessel on my team.  The Bruins only have 4 more wins than the Leafs have now.

Who needs Kessel.

Well, what is your solution?  play Rask is one... that is only going to happen a little bit because it is still a Tim Thomas team. Why? Because he is still playing alright and you do not sign a guy to TTs contract to sit on the bench.  His signing reflect what the organization thinks of him so he is playing nets... and what is the solution for the offense?  You are complaining the same things over and over.  Rask IS getting playing time, but they are not going to hand over the "keys" to him when they have Thomas playing alright.  Rask is a rookie and is still getting close to half of the playing time, so there is no more to say.
Kessel is gone.  Michael Ryder and Marco Sturm and Marc Savard, and Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic were signed for the same darn reasons TT was, they thought these guys would carry them, and there is some offense to work on, Bruins may trade, but not until part of the problem is worked out, because if they trade to bring someone in, it will have to be March because they are like every other NHL team and close to their cap space.
So complaining about Rask vs Thomas has been gone over and over.  Rask has better stats... Thomas has played more games ... and since he isn't losing by 6 goals every night the job is TTs because he is absolutely proven to be reliable.  Why wouldn't it be?  Many players like Boston (lately) for a degree of loyalty.  If they turned their back on Thomas, what message does that send out?  If you want to scare them (productively), you would have to throw a player who isn't performing under the bus, but not one who is doing his job.
And I know as I say this he has 2 goals in the 1st period on him, but look, they are up right now.  I just see this going down the same road as earlier and I kept quiet about it for a while because I did not want this to go through this discussion again.  We could copy and paste for a bit. lol.  The team belongs to THOMMMMAAAAASSSS!  (Unless he royally messes up - we are talking a fairly long term GAA over 3)

Toronto is a weak team that's a fact, don't sugar coat it. . I said in previous posts I would rather have Kessel at 5.4 than Lucic at 4 mil. In previous posts you said stop the Kessel talk he's gone and now you want to talk about Kessel. We may actually agree more than we disagree. I like Rask but I also like TT, I would not sign TT for his current long term deal. It's too much but the man can play and the B's problems are not goaltending and other guys on the roster are over paid as previously stated. . This team plays just as hard for TT as Rask anyone who thinks different isn't watching the games. The B's F*cked up by not signing Kessel, no question.

On the positive side how bout the play of Bergereon. He's winnign face offs and plays pp and shorthanded, great stuff. CJ still can't settle on lines. Is this due to lack of good play or CJ lack of committing to lines? I don't know the answer.

The One Stop, All Bruins Thread!

December 24, 2009 7:35 am

I have to change this title back because it is throwing off when I look for it on my page.  I like the win last night.  Thrashers are a high octane offense, with less defense.  Bruins have next few days off, and the World Juniors is about to get under way in Saskatoon and Regina.
Remember last year near this time, a lot of people figured the Bruins were a shoo in for the cup.  Well things changed by the end, so perhaps this time they can ride a wave near the end of the year instead to go into the playoffs.

Two things

1. There is no guarentee that Kessel would be scoreing a ton of goals if he were still a Bruin.Besides he is not a Bruin so please stop bringing it up.Its like saying if we only had Gretzky.....

2.Lucic is not making 4 mil this season so I can not see why you would say he is over payed at this point.

I really would love to see Kovalchuck reunite with Savvy but the Bs have no money and they would have to come up with a big trade proposal! I think the Bruins will not make a move this season and just make the playoffs and wish for the best. They'll handle their business in the off season. So Bruins fans get ready for another early exit in the playoffs AGAIN!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF US!

Opening games of World Juniors.  Team Canada vs Team Latvia at 3:30.  Taylor Hall is on the first line and this should be a 6-0 romp.  Hall is the only player undrafted playing for Canada.
Anyone know a better Site to see the stats and background of some of the other Junior teams?  TSN has super detail on the Canadian team, but not on the other teams.. just a roster and the team they are currently playing with and that is it.

Alright game today, but wow some of these Bruins ( I am singling out Mark Recchi here) don't seem to see where the rest of the players are....  Near the end of the game, he got the puck in the Panthers end with 2 Bruins going for the net and no one near them, he does a wide circle and gets it out to the blueline.

Nice save at the end of the game to preserve the win, and at least they got another 2 points.  I am pretty psyched for New Years eve and day... Canada vs USA and then watch the Bruins play outdoors the next day.

Another win, and I'll take the two points, but man, aren't we starting to look like the old NJ Devils? Great goaltending, awesome defense and just enough offense to pull it off. Like I said I'll take the two points, but this diehard Bruins fan was channel surfing during this one.

I would love the Bruins to look like the NJ Devils of '95, '00, '03.

Golden boy Kessel has been very quiet lately. Do you guys remember these stretches?

So would I! If they win 2-1 all the way to the cup, I would be estatic! But yesterday was like watching paint dry. Maybe if they played a little more physical it would help. I can't wait for Looch to come back. Hopefully we get another 2 points tonight.

Hey matty still more goals than any one on the Bruins.  But thats not why I came on tonight.  I came on to sign off and say fairwell.  I may have mispoken before when I said it wasnt personal with TT. I have never liked him.  I dont like the way he plays or his style of goaltending. The defense is playing great in front of him and in doing so right now he is only giving up the worst of the soft goals that he gives up.  Its funny, Rask plays great and he is still put on the bench. TT plays terrible and he gets put back out there. Who says five million didnt make a difference if Rask played well he would start. I think he has played once in ten games.  Now when I watch the games I am wishing the other team scores on TT. So I have decided again to stop watching the only reason I came back before was that Rask started to play. I now can see that no matter how well he plays and even if he is the better goalie there are five million reasons he wont be the starter for 3 more years.  I cant stomach TT for that long so I am out.  It was great discussing hockey with all of you. I had fun.  Have a good one and a have a happy new year.  Remember you always heard it here that they will not win a stanley cup with TT as your goalie.

Oh someone said Lucic is not overpaid yet because he does not make 4 million this year. So does that mean next year he will be overpaid. I digress
