The New 1970s Lyrics Game

April 24, 2008 2:30 am

The concept is simple:  Name the tune for the last lyric posted, then post a lyric of your own to be guessed.

Try to keep the songs from the 1970s, but there's no need to get anal about it; if it slips into the 60s or 80s by a couple of years, we can overlook that.

The New 1970s Lyrics Game

January 17, 2010 6:13 am

And I hope we all arrive together
We gotta get to _ ______ _____
If we want to survive the weather

I remember walking with her in town
Her hair was in the wind
I gave her my best kiss
She gave it back again
When I add up what I've left behind
I don't want to lose no more

A HIGHER PLACE - TOM PETTY  Great song RHINO.  AMG song review:

One of Tom Petty's most powerful and spiritual musical statements of his impressive career, "A Higher Place" was sort of the sleeper of the exquisite
Wildflowers. Petty's use of metaphors and allegros about traveling and the river of life are indeed classic, and he interweaves them throughout the song with the skill of a surgeon. Musically, the song's buoyant and heavy folk-rock base is underlined by one of guitarist Mike Campbell's finest (and most extended) 12-string guitar solos.

NEXT LYRICS: This song ia sage advice from someone wiser than I

Now the darkness only stays at nighttime,
in the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good
at arriving at the right time
It's not always
going to be this grey

She said, "I think I remember the film
and as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it."
And I said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got."

"My Baby Loves The western Movies"; not sure about the name of the group.  The Olympians?  The Olympics?  something like that, I think.

Everybody knows when you go to the show
you can't take the kids along.
You've gotta read the paper and know the code of G, PG, and R, and X,
and you gotta know what the movie's about
before you even go.
Tex Ritter's gone, and Disney's dead,
and the screen is filled with sex.

Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott - Statler Brothers

You can have your TV and your nightclubs
And you can have your drivein picture show
I'll stay here with my little man near, we'll listen to the radio

WATCHING SCOTTY GROW - BOBBY GOLDSBORO  CLEAN, you are really forcing memories buried deep in my brain to surface.  I was young enough to be a big Bobby Goldsboro fan and this was his attempt to break away from his teeny bopper image I believe,  but I sometimes get he and Bobby Sherman confused.

NEXT LYRICS:  This slides back into the 60s and is notable for being on the first album released by APPLE that wasn't a Beatles record. A favorite album of mine, this artist is currently touring with another great singer/songwriter who made one of the most famous albums of this time period.

Now my friends all came to see me they point at me and stare
Said he's just like the rest of us so what's he doing in there
They hide in their movie theaters drinking juice-keeping tight
'Cause they're certain about one thing that zoo's no place to spend the
night

Let Me Ride - James Taylor. I always thought the first nonBeatle Apple album was Mary Hopkin's featuring "Those Were the Days." Learn something every day. I too listened to JT a lot in the early days.

I go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me don't hang around

A CHANGE IS GONNA COME - SAM COOKE   CLEAN, you are in extraordinary form today.   Great song!!

I think THOSE WERE THE DAYS might have been the first hit 45 released on APPLE by a non Beatle. Her album has a release date of 1969 according to AMG while I have a copy of JAMES TAYLOR with the APPLE label on it that has a 1968 copyright date. AMG also credits his album release as the first. But you did make me actually get out my old albums to look, which I always enjoy.

NEXT LYRICS:   OMG!!!!  Looking through my old records and I got into my 45s and found a copy of this song which featured narration by one of the most famous DJ's of all time.  I remember hearing him before he made the national scene when we would visit my sister who lived in LA in the late 60s & early 70s.
