I'm just surprised to see all the "Ravens are screwed" talk

Steelers First Round Draft Grade:      A
Ravens First Round Draft Grade:       Incomplete

Looks like the Ravens are coming back for summer school! Tongue out

Welcome to Pittsburgh, Mr. DeCastro.  These are the Counter-34-Pike and 22-Double.  I hope you enjoy blowing up OLBs and DBs with an 8-yard head of steam. Cool

Good night Folks.

Ravens are not screwed but to me the top players were swiped right from under them, witness them moving back. The Ravens beat us twice in 2011, the OL got no push, now we got a stud OG that could help that situation, and he an actually pass protect, put him next to Pouncey.

Who do you like in round 2, Heck if they got another OG or an OT I could live with that. Just run everyone over, Pittsburgh style.

I am working 9-6 tomorrow. will pop on and off until I get into my war chair.

DeCastro? You never know how these things turn out but it could be the steal of the draft.Great pick.

I'm hearing Decastro can play LG or RG

As for the Ravens getting screwed, not so sure about that. Once Hightower was gone they got out of the 1st tound pretty quickly, they have an extra pick now and could still get a guy like Upshaw, Glenn or Konz.

Congrats Steeler faithful. You had one of the 10 best football players drop right into your lap at 24. Pretty sweet feeling I'm sure.

Thanks, we think so.  I had a blast doing the Collaborative Draft, only one this year, full plate anyhow.  When you talk Blue Chip players, guys that start in week one, there were just over half a dozen of these guys, David DeCastro was one of them.  The cool thing is that Kevin Colbert never tried to move up, he kept all the picks, he saw OL being under-valued in this draft. Teams started reaching for pass rushers, cornerbacks, WR, and then RB, ignoring the OL.

Round 1 Winners:

Vikings- They wanted Ryan Kalil and they got 3 picks from a panicking Browns office, and got a Safety they needed as well.
Dallas- for what they gave up to get a shut down corner, pure Genius
Philly- same pattern see above, to move up for Fletcher Cox was brilliant, mark my words best DT in this draft.
Detroit- Reilly Reiff fills a need, BPA, gives Stafford some protection, and Jahvid Best some room to run.
Pittsburgh- Biggest miracle since the Immacualte Reception getting a plug and play future pro bowler at 24.

Round 1 Neutral:

Rams- I like Brockers, but DT was deep this year, they could have squeezed Jerry Jones a bit harder IMHO.
Bengals- I like their two picks, but passing on DeCastro for Zeitler, for a third rounder, TBD.
Patriots- I think they took another boom or bust player in Chandler Jones, but I credit them for Hightower, their LB corps was one of the crappiest in the NFL. New Englands best LB, Jarod Mayo is not even a seek and hit player, he is more of wait for traffic to clear backer.  While every chicken chit analyst is afraid to challenge Belichick, I will. NOw you only have 2 more picks and won't even be drafting on day 3, for now.
Ravens- traded back, will still get Konz, unless the Colts throw them a curve ball. They don't need Fleener, I wonder if they are looking at Amini Silatolu to replace Grubbs?

Round 1 Losers:

Seattle- Crystal Meth must have been part of the menu in their War Room.
Browns- you know I don't hate them, I pity them and I think a lot of their loyal fans. But WAY too steep a price for going from 4 to 3 that is  sheer lunacy. And then they take Brady Quinn's older brother, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
Texans- Another pass rusher to a team loaded with similar or better talent.
Cardinals: With Russ Grimm as your OC, how do you pass on the OL and get another WR. This is a very deep class and with the off the field crap from FLoyd, it may come back and bite them in the a$$.
Chiefs- taking Dontari Poe over Fletcher Cox will haunt them.

Round 2 Winners:

Rams- they have their pick of 5 first round talented players at 7PM. They also have the 45th pick. I see WR and OL for them.
Colts- both Fleener and Martin still on the board, could not imagine helping Andrew Luck with a better scenario or familiarity to start his career.

Keep draftin the big uglies, run the freakin" ball

This is something that I've been throwing around the last few years, and I've caught some flack for it on other sites/boards/in person.

Yes, the league is moving towards benefitting the passing game. But WITH that, teams are loading up with coverage players and smaller, faster front 7 players.

Heck, teams have corners playing FS and FS's playing SS.

Often, the easiest way to be successful is when everyone is looking left, go RIGHT.

And even though the league rules favor passing, what do you have to be able to do when:

-You have a lead

-The weather is bad

-You get to the playoffs/SuperBowl

RUN THE BALL AND PLAY DEFENSE!

I love Ben, but it's pretty obvious that he's at his best when teams have to respect the Steelers ability to run the football down their throats.

All the "experts" talk about how Pittsburgh is moving towards being a passing team, or already are. Yes, they have playmakers in the passing game...

BUT PUSH THE PILE AND RUN THE DAMN BALL!!! Laughing
